Desert Day
Myles loves a test and working with traditional copper red glazes in gas firings requires a hard work and persistence. Like a child, when it is good it is very, very good, when it is bad… its not so attractive but it still works okay!
We used to have a lovely combination of chun, tenmoku and copper red that made a wonderful mix we called Astral. Then it just stopped working. So David Thomson, our glaze experimenter, and Myles worked on an alternative using the same traditional colours melt together with a wax resist brushed on. Desert Day reminds us of the desert in with the rich red and darkness of the tenmoku. The night sky is represented by the moving chun.
It adds brightness, tradition and beauty into a neutral environment.
For when you are serving up tasty goodies, these plates are perfect for anything from tapas, cake or breakfast toast.
Pressed into a mould and then trimmed, glazed and finished by hand, our plates are for everyday use.
